A PDF with no text in it — a scan, or an export that flattened its pages to images — is read as pictures instead, on your device, and the result says so.
Cards cite what the document actually has: a page in a PDF, a heading in a Word or Markdown file, a line in a text file. Yank does not print a page number for formats that have no pages of their own.
Not yet: .doc (save it as .docx), spreadsheets and slide decks.
The file is opened in your browser and never uploaded; only the text it contains is sent, and the result is never saved, published, or added to the library.

Is my file uploaded?
No. It is opened in your browser, and only the text it contains is sent to Yank. While it runs, the page shows how many kilobytes left.
Is anything saved?
No. A yank of your file is never saved, published or added to the library. It lives in this tab and is gone when you close it.
What can I drop?
A PDF, a Word file (.docx), plain text, Markdown or RTF; a recording as MP3, WAV or M4A, transcribed in your browser; or a caption file as SRT or VTT.
What about a scanned PDF?
